Lightning Kills 11 People in Two Months in NE China

Lightning killed 11 people in the past two months in Heilongjiang Province, northeast China, said a local official in charge of the prevention of lighting shocks.

Lightning killed 11 people in the past two months in Heilongjiang Province, northeast China, said a local official in charge of the prevention of lighting shocks.

A total of 18 lightning accidents were recorded in the provincesince the end of May, causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in economic losses.

On June 23, 49 grain silos were set ablaze in a State-owned Grain Storage in Suibin County after they were hit by lighting, leaving 19,000 tons of grain burnt.

The official said the failure to install qualified anti-lightning facilities was blamed for most of the accidents.
