HK Holds Ceremony to Pay Tribute to Health Care Workers

Leaders of 600 Hong Kong organizations assembled the first time at "Hong Kong, Our Home-Salute to Health Care Workers' Medal Presentation Ceremony" to present medals to hundreds of staff of the Hospital Authority at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center Monday.

Leaders of 600 Hong Kong organizations assembled the first time at "Hong Kong, Our Home-Salute to Health Care Workers' Medal Presentation Ceremony" to present medals to hundreds of staff of the Hospital Authority at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center Monday.

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa, Gao Siren, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in HKSAR, attended the ceremony.

"SARS Heroic Medals" were conferred on six front-line health care workers who had devoted their lives to the anti-SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) battle and 300 health care workers whohad been infected with the disease on their post.

"Commemorative Plaques for Outstanding SARS Team" were conferred on groups of health care workers from seven hospitals and "SARS Heroic Pins" were presented to 50,000 health care workers who have contributed with various means and practice in combating SARS.

Yu Kwok-chun, convener of the Organizing Committee of the "HongKong, Our Home-Salute to Health Care Workers' Medal Presentation Ceremony," said at the ceremony that "today, we are the winners ofthe SARS fight and are able to recover rapidly from the crisis. All this was the results of the health care workers' sacrificed dedication during the epidemics."

He added that "we would very much like to take this opportunityto show our wholehearted gratitude to all of you who have been standing at the front line in defending Hong Kong people."

William Ho, executive director of the Hospital Authority, said that "going through the epidemics, we now realize that money is not the most thing in life, but life itself is. We love Hong Kong and therefore we are eager to contribute ourselves in fighting SARS."
