Vice-Premier Wu Yi said in Beijing Wednesday afternoon that China is ready to strengthen international cooperation in the prevention and treatment of the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and is fully confident of success.
Wu made the remarks during a meeting with Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, a visiting government minister of Cuba, and his party.
The Cuban minister said Fidel Castro Ruz, president of the Council of State and president of the Council of Ministers of Cuba, had paid great attention to China's fighting against SARS. Cuba was willing to provide medical assistance to China if necessary, he noted.
Cabrisas said he had witnessed China's substantial efforts in curbing the disease during his visit and that he was convinced that China would succeed in the prevention and treatment of SARS.
Vice-Premier Wu asked Cabrisas to forward to President Castro the heart-felt thanks of the Chinese government. And she briefed Cabrisas on her country's efforts in combating the disease, and said that China was fully confident of winning the fight.
Wu and Cabrisas also had an in-depth exchange of views on strengthening bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
