Beijing Party Secretary Meets French PM

Liu, also secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPC, briefed the guests on Beijing's measures to contain the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).
Liu said the city has disseminated information on the prevention and treatment of the disease through printed materials and the media in an effort to encourage objective evaluations and to reduce panic.
He said that Beijing has set up a special task force to tackle the issue which is coordinating closely with the army and medical departments to contain the epidemic. The team has made some progress in this area, he said.
Beijing has also quarantined some buildings and hospitals to stem the spread of the disease, a measure welcomed by the public.
Raffarin said the French government and people sympathize with and support China's fight against SARS, believing the Chinese willwin in this special combat.
The French side will collaborate with the World Health Organization to contribute to China's prevention work, the prime minister said.
