The international auto show currently being held in Shanghai will close three days ahead of schedule in the interest of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) prevention measures, sponsors said Wednesday.

To ensure participants' health during this intensive period of SARS prevention, the Shanghai municipal government has decided to close the 2003 Shanghai International Automobile and Manufacturing Technology Exhibition on April 24, according to the sponsors.

About 730 auto manufacturers from 23 countries and regions participated in the exhibition, which opened Monday and which was scheduled to close on April 27.

No participants were infected with SARS during the exhibition, thanks to the effective preventive measures taken by the sponsors.
