Former Chinese soccer international Ma Lin will coach Beijing Sanyuan on a care-taker basis, the club announced on Tuesday.
Ma, a first-choice striker on the Chinese national team in the 1980s, will replace Bulgarian coach Dimitar Penev who was fired Monday after the team had one win and four losses this season.
"We are confident about Ma's capability," said Zhang Shuguang, general manager of the club.
"But whether he will be appointed head coach depends on the results in future," added Zhang.
Penev, who led Bulgaria to fourth place at the 1994 World Cup finals, took the reins of the Chinese first division side in January.
