As learnt from Chinese Academy of Forestry China is going to launch an activity of choosing the national flower, national tree and national bird to put an end to the history that China doesn't have such symbols.

Now, at least 60 countries in the world have defined their national flowers, over 120 countries their national trees and over 40 countries their national birds. As one of the countries with a long history of ancient civilization in the world, and as a country abundant in fauna and flora resources, China hasn't so far had its national flower, national tree and national bird.

As learned, there has ever been such voices as "one national flower, peony; four national flowers, including peony" when choosing national flowers. But finally it ended up with nothing defined due to various reasons. In 1980s, China also held the activity to choose the national tree, and the maidenhair tree was the most likely. But restricted by actual conditions at that time, the activity of choosing national tree had to be shelved.

In order to make up China's gap in this aspect, Chinese Academy of Forestry, joining hands with China Flower Association and China Wildness Care Association, will develop the activity of choosing national flower, tree and bird, and submit them to National People's Congress for approval in line with the program.
