An exhibition on Jakob Rosenfeld's life was held Saturday in Beijing to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of the Austrian internationalist and doctor.

Rosenfeld came to China in 1939 and, two years later, joined the New Fourth Army led by the Communist Party of China (CPC) against Japanese aggression. For eight years he treated thousands of wounded soldiers of the armed forces led by the CPC. He returned home shortly after the founding of New China and died of a heart attack in 1952 at the age of 49.

At the opening ceremony, Chen Haosu, president of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, said Rosenfeld was a hero in China's revolutionary history, and the Chinese people will never forget the precious contributions he made.

Anna Elisabeth Haselbach, vice-president of the Austrian Federal Council, appreciates the great honor China has given to Rosenfeld, saying that Rosenfeld was a pioneer of Austria-China friendship, and his contributions will be an eternal monument in the hearts of the two peoples.

The Chinese version of China's Great Era, a book compiled on the basis of the notes taken by Rosenfeld during his stay in China, was also launched Saturday.
