A landslide measuring 80,000 cubic meters killed two people and left six missing Thursday morning in Zhenxiong County, southwest China's Yunnan Province.
The sudden landslide destroyed the highway in Dashangou Villagein Wude Town of the county and buried eight villagers and three agricultural vehicles passing by. One died on the spot, one seriously-injured died on the way to hospital and rescuers are still searching for the other six, said Li Ping, an official with the county government.
Rescue workers rushed to the site shortly after the accident occurred to search for the buried victims in the fallen stones andearth.
Though rescue work was still underway at press time, the narrowroad, loose soil structure and size of the landslide have prevented the work from being carried out smoothly.
