To date, more than 600 patients suffering from various terminal cancers have received hospice service for terminal patients in Harbin, the capital of China's northeast Heilongjiang Province.

On the morning of April 2, Li Zongjin, a terminal throat cancerpatient, received in-home treatment especially designed for terminal patients from doctors with the local Ningyang hospital.

The Ningyang, a branch of a major hospital specializing in tumor treatment and surgery, operating under the Harbin Medical University, has provided the services for one year and is trying to expand the service to other areas.

Doctor Li Yu with the Ninyang branch, said that she and her colleagues visit patients in the city who are registered with the program on a daily basis. They also visit those outside the city on a regular basis.

The hospital provides the patients with medicine and psychological support to give them hope, all free of charge, said Li Yu.

"Each visit by the doctors makes me feel people still care for me a great deal, each day that I remain in this world," wrote Li Zongjin, who has lost his ability to speak due to his swollen throat.
