Beijing Hyundai coach Jose Carlosde Oliveira has resigned from the post following a string of poor performances, the club confirmed on Friday.
"Oliveira said he didn't live up to the expectations of the club and fans and was incapable of coaching the team any more," club vice-manager Fu Xiaodong told Xinhua late on Friday night.
The 56-year-old Brazilian, who coached Shaanxi Guoli in the 2000 and 2001 seasons, had vowed to lead the Beijing Hyundai team to league champions upon his appointment in January.
But Beijing Hyundai, last season's runner-ups, collected only five points from six games after losing 1-0 to Shanghai Zhongyuan on Wednesday.
Former coach Wei Kexing is taking reins of the team as a caretaker and the club will appoint a new coach soon, said Fu.
Oliveira became this season's first coach to quit in the Chinese first division soccer league.
