Chinese Diplomats Visit Van Crash Survivors

Chinese diplomats Tuesday expressed appreciation to emergency crew and medical personnel for their efforts to rescue Chinese educators in a fatal road accident that happened in central Pennsylvania on Monday.

Chinese diplomats Tuesday expressed appreciation to emergency crew and medical personnel for their efforts to rescue Chinese educators in a fatal road accident that happened in central Pennsylvania on Monday.

"We express our sincere gratitude to the emergency response teams and hospital staff for their skills and efficiency in providing excellent medical care," said Liu Chuansheng, Minister Counselor of the Chinese embassy in Washington DC.

The group of educators from China's southern province of Hunan were on a study tour of various US schools and universities. Their van crashed on a slush-covered road and slammed into trees, killing seven and wounding four.

The four survivors were taken to the Williamsport Hospital and Medical Center, and two of them were still in critical condition.

Chinese Consular-General in New York Ambassador Zhang Hongxi and other diplomats from the consulate and the Chinese embassy in Washington rushed to the hospital overnight to visit the survivorsand conveyed to them the great concern of Chinese President Hu Jintao and other leaders for them.
