Port City Becomes Gateway for Hinterland's Foreign Trade
East China's port city Lianyungang signed a contract with Chengdu, capital of southwest Sichuan Province, on the transferal of container goods in foreign trade on Monday.
East China's port city Lianyungang signed a contract with Chengdu, capital of southwest Sichuan Province, on the transferal of container goods in foreign trade on Monday.
To date, a total five cities in four provinces in central and west China, namely Zhengzhou, Xi'an, Mianyang, Chengdu and Lanzhou, have signed such contracts with Lianyungang.
Regular trains for container transport have traveled between the port city and inland cities at a cost 10-15 percent lower than the special ones.
Lianyungang has also become the most convenient port linking central and western China with the outside world. In 2002, about 80 percent of containers entering and exiting Chengdu were through Lianyungang.
The port city has established commercial transport relations with nearly 1,000 ports in over 150 countries and regions. It alsoplans to build a deep water sea-route for 100,000-ton ships in thenear future.
