Russia's space forces launched a Molniya military satellite into orbit on Wednesday, the Interfax news agency reported.
The news agency quoted the space forces' press service as saying that the satellite blasted off on a Molniya-M rocket from the northern Plesetsk State Test Cosmodrome at 5:53 a.m. (0353 GMT).
The satellite, which was sent into a high elliptic orbit at 6:50 a.m. (0450 GMT), would be used by the Defense Ministry, the press service said, adding that the Space Forces have been monitoring the satellite since 7:38 a.m. (0538 GMT).
Space Forces Commander Anatoly Perminov, who was in charge of the launch, said the satellite was the 222nd to be launched on a Molniya-M rocket from Plesetsk and the 216th to have successfully reached orbit, according to Interfax.
