The death toll in Thailand's drugs crackdown had risen to more than 2,000, police said as the kingdom entered the third month of the "war on drugs", the Business day reported Wednesday.
Thai National Police spokesman Pongsapat Pongcharoen said that police had arrested 46,776 drug suspects, seized 12.5 million amphetamine tablets and 641 million baht (15.3 million US dollars) in assets since the crackdown began on Feb. 1.
He said over the past two months a total of 2,052 people had been killed across the country, including 46 people who were shot dead by police in self-defense, while 6 police officers were murdered and 15 injured.
Meanwhile, according to Thai Interior Minister Wan Muhammad Noor Matha, 440 officials and local politicians found linking to drug trafficking had been dismissed, including 2 police colonels.
Police are yet to find any national-level politicians with drug links, while they are searching for evidence to incriminate another 400 officials, he added.
