KCNA Denounces Japan's Self-imposed Right of Preemptive Attack
Japan's recent moves to contain the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) are a gross violation of the spirit of the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said in a commentary on Tuesday.
Japan's recent moves to contain the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) are a gross violation of the spirit of the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said in a commentary on Tuesday.
This commentary is in response to the remarks made on Sunday by Shigeru Ishiba, director general of Japan's Defense Agency, that his country has the right to stage preemptive attack on the DPRK if the latter launches missiles.
His remarks represent an escalation of Japan's recent anti-DPRK moves, which included the launch of a spy satellite, threatened interception and economic sanctions on the DPRK if the latter launches missiles. They pose a serious threat to DPRK, the commentary said.
"All this goes to prove that Japan, still regarding the DPRK as its enemy, is refusing to redeem its past crimes and watching for every chance to reinvade Korea in gross violation of the spirit of the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration calling for both sides to refrain from threatening each other," it said.
Japan was following the United States in containing the DPRK, with an eye to sparking "US-led second Iraq war" on the Korean Peninsula, the commentary added.
The DPRK's development and deployment of missiles are designedto increase its self-defense capability, which is by no means a threat to other countries, it added.
Japan's preemptive attack on the DPRK will only lead to its self-destruction, the commentary warned.
