PLA Chief Meets Belarus Counterpart

Liang Guanglie, chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), held talksTuesday with Gurulev Sergey, chief of the general staff of the Belarus armed forces, and his party.

The two armed forces share a traditional friendship and have had a frequent exchange of high-level visits and their multi-layer,substantial cooperation in various fields were further strengthened in recent years, Liang said.

The Chinese people and the armed forces will, as always, continue their efforts to develop the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries and their armed forces, he said.

Liang also gave the guests an account of China's stance and views on the Iraq situation as well as China's domestic situation and army building.

Gurulev said that although Belarus was a young country, its relations with China have enjoyed new progress.

Belarus' army has grown in strength steadily and in a planned way along with the development of the country, he noted, and the military-to-military relations between his country and China wouldbe further promoted with the development of state-to-state relations.

The Belarus government has attached great importance to the exchanges and cooperation between the two armed forces, he stressed.

Gurulev said Belarus highly appreciated China's position on theIraq issue.
