Great Wall Beneath Water (II)

This photo taken on March 25, 2003 shows part of Panjiakou section of the Great Wall which was once beneath water for about 30 years. The Panjiakou section of the Great Wall located in the Panjiakou reservoir in Manchu Autonomous County of Kuancheng in north China's Hebei Province. It is unique and named for "Great Wall beneath water". 

Great Wall Beneath Water(I)

This photo taken on March 25, 2003 shows a visitor shooting photos of the "Great Wall beneath water" that was once beneath water for about 30 years. The Panjiakou section of the Great Wall located in the Panjiakou reservoir in Manchu Autonomous County of Kuancheng in north China's Hebei Province. It is unique and named for "Great Wall beneath water". Built about 500 years ago, the 50-kilometer-long Panjiakou section and Xifengkou section of the Great Wall once were two key passes leading to northern and northeastern China in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).  

Hebei's Farmers Broom Economy

Two peasant women of Bizhuang village put their hand-made brooms on the roof to dry them in the sun in Luannan county, north China's Hebei Province, March 24, 2003. These brooms will be sold abroad. Making brooms is a specialty of the Bizhuang village which has a history of 60 years. In these years, their broom products have dominated the market following their high quality but low price strategy. Some products are exported in South Korea, Japan and other countries. The whole village produces six million brooms annually and its sales volume reaches 40 million yuan.

2002 China Top Ten Athletes Unveiled

China unveiled the names of its top ten athletes for the year 2002 on March 28 in Beijing, a traditional sports award since 1979 presented annually by the Chinese Sports Press Group.

Shaolin Gongfu Show in Moscow

A monk of the famous Shaolin Temple shows Shaolin gongfu during the performances named "Shaolin, lengend and reality" in Moscow, Russia, March 28, 2003. The 28 performers are from the Shaolin Temple of the Songshan mountains in central China's Henan Province. Their skills of Chinese gongfu amazed 1,000 Russian audiences. They will give five performances in Moscow.

Humanitarian aid for Iraqi refugees ready for shipping

The first batch of 100 tensts in humanitarian aid from the Chinese government for Iraqi civilians is loaded onto a plane to be transported to Jordan from Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Sunday March 30, 2003. The total aid will include 500 tents, each four meters long, three meters wide and 2.5 meters high. 

Forest Fire in China's Shannxi Put out

Firefighters check the site of once a forest fire in Fuping County, northwest China's Shaanxi Province March 29, 2003. The fire broke out abruptly at around 1 p.m. Friday on a mountain, covered with shrubbery and withered grass, in Tangwan Village, one kilometer to the north of the county town of Fuping. The fire has been put out after claiming nine lives and causing 10 more injuries.

Turkish Hijack Ends with Passengers Freed Unharmed

The 20-year-old Turkish hijacker of a Turkish Airlines plane earlier Saturday surrendered to Greek police and was arrested, and all the 194 passengers and nine crewsaboard the plane were released and sent to safe places, a Greek government spokesman said.  

Jordan-Iraq Highway Security
