The Tibet Autonomous Region will make greater efforts to deepen reform and open wider to the outside world, said Nyima Cering, vice chairman of the regional government.
In a recent interview with a journalist with "The Hankook Ilbo" newspaper of the Republic of Korea, the vice chairman described China's reform and opening-up drive, introduced in the late 1970s,as a policy that has led local residents to prosperity.
According to Nyima Cering, Tibet has expanded opening-up and scored notable progress in market economic development, coupled with an improved awareness of market economy among local residents for the past two decades.
In the new century, Tibet should open wider to introduce advanced technologies and to promote economic development in this plateau region, Nyima Cering explained.
In carrying out the reform and opening-up, Tibet must rely on unique local resources and its advantages, said the vice chairman, adding that Tibet welcomes domestic and overseas investors to try their luck here as the remote region is abounding with natural scenic sites and landscapes together with historical events and famous people, rich mineral resources, and Tibetan medicine with ahistory of 1,000 years.
The ecological environment is well protected in Tibet where there are 18 state-level and regional-level nature reserves, with the combined area accounting for one third of the region's total.
Nyima Cering pledged to continue to value the protection of the ecological environment, to pursue a path of sustainable development while seizing the historical opportunity of the country's campaign to explore the western part of the country and to make strides in economic construction in Tibet.
