New Guangzhou Mayor Appointed

Zhang Guangning was appointed mayor of Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province in south China, on Saturday at the first session of the 12th Guangzhou City People's Congress.

Zhang Guangning was appointed mayor of Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province in south China, on Saturday at the first session of the 12th Guangzhou City People's Congress.

Zhang, born in 1953, became acting mayor of Guangzhou last month.

Also at the meeting, Lin Shusen, was elected chairman of the Standing Committee of the Guangzhou City People's Congress.

Lin, born in 1946, had been mayor of the city until February.
