Senior Chinese Official Meets HK Chamber of Commerce Delegation

Jia Qinglin, Chairman of the 10thNational Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met with the visiting Hong Kong Chinese General Chamber of Commerce delegation headed by Tsang Hin-chi on Tuesday at the Great Hall of the People.

Jia Qinglin, Chairman of the 10thNational Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met with the visiting Hong Kong Chinese General Chamber of Commerce delegation headed by Tsang Hin-chi on Tuesday at the Great Hall of the People.

Jia, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), congratulated the delegation on the newly-elected board chairpersons of the chamber.

He expressed his gratitude for the chamber's stance on "love for country and love for Hong Kong" and its contribution to the country and to Hong Kong.

He briefed the delegation on the two important recently-concluded conferences in Beijing, noting that the newly-elected leadership of China and the documents and resolutions passed are vital to the country's future development.

Jia said the "One Country, Two Systems" principle has proven successful and will be helpful in solving the Taiwan issue.

He said that, although the Hong Kong economy is currently facing several obstacles, the region's legal, geographic and intellectual advantages remain.

He said he hopes the chamber will encourage the business community will help the regional administration to improve the economy.

"The central government will do everything possible to promote Hong Kong's stability and development," he added.
