China will continue to play its role in achieving the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan said Tuesday.
China had in the past and would in the future play an active and constructive role in achieving the denuclearization of the peninsula, maintaining peace and stability there, and addressing problems through peaceful, political and diplomatic ways, Kong said.
He said China believed joint efforts from various parties would help find a correct way to deal with the nuclear issue. China hoped the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States could start dialogue as soon as possible and solve the issue with political means on the basis of the framework agreement between two countries. In this regard, China had played an active, responsible and constructive role and would continue todo so.
After the nuclear issue appeared, various sides had different considerations and suggestions, Kong said. China's attitude was firm in not excluding any suggestion, as long as it was beneficialto the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the peace and stability in the peninsula. Of course, such suggestions should be agreed by the nations involved.
