China will bid to host one of badminton's major world team events, the Sudirman Cup, in 2005.

A four-member delegation will go to Eindhoven, the Netherlands, to put their case to the International Badminton Federation.

The 8th mixed team world championship is taking place this week in the Dutch city.

The Sudirman Cup, named after Indonesia's most distinguished badminton player, was inaugurated in 1989.

China has won the last four championships in a row. The tournament takes place biennially.

If the bid is successful, it will be the first time that China hosts the Sudirman Cup.
