2 Dead and 12 Missing in Fujian Ship-collisions

Two separate ship-collision accidents took place in Pingtan sea area of south east China's Fujian Province Saturday, leaving two people dead and another 12 missing.

Two separate ship-collision accidents took place in Pingtan sea area of south east China's Fujian Province Saturday, leaving two people dead and another 12 missing.

According to sources with the provincial maritime safety administration, among the total 21 people who were cast into the sea in the two accidents respectively, seven have been rescued alive up to 10:00 am Sunday morning.

According to sources, the first accident happened in the water area east of Pingtan at 8:10 am Saturday when a fishing boat from Fujian collided with a steamship from Shanghai. All 12 sailors onboard the Fujian fishing boast were cast into sea as the boat sank. Three of them were finally rescued.

Another accident took place in the north of the Minjiang River mouth at around 5:00 pm when a ship named "Runda" collided with another ship named "Haogang" from Quanzhou. The latter was sunk. Among the nine sailors thrown into the sea, four have been rescued.

Rescue efforts are still tensely underway through joint effortsof the provincial maritime safety administration, the Maritime police and the local-based navy. Ships passing by have also been requested to help with the rescuing.
