A women's salon attended by consuls general and their wives in Shanghai was held Wednesday to mark the March 8 International Women's Day.
Coming from 22 countries, including Britain, France, Germany, Japan, Russia and the United States, the consuls general and their wives happily adorned traditional costumes for the party which was themed "women's beauty, charm of clothes".
A series of activities were held at the party, such as the modeling of traditional Chinese costumes, a lecture on the history of Chinese costumes and a show of traditional Chinese dances. Foreign guests discussed with their Chinese hosts on clothing culture and trends, and some even gave impromptu talks.
The salon was sponsored by the foreign affairs office of the Shanghai Municipal Government, the woman professors union of Donghua University in Shanghai and the consulates of foreign countries based in the city.
