Commemorations were held Wednesday throughout China in honor of the country's revolutionary forefather Sun Yat-Sen, who died on March 12, 1925.

Among the pantheon of Chinese leaders with rare clairvoyance, Sun Yat-Sen was outstanding and Chinese people remember him particularly on March 12 each year.

A memorial ceremony was held in the Yat-Sen Hall located in the Zhongshan Park in Beijing and people placed flower baskets around his white marble statue.

"Hundreds of thousands of tourists visit the memorial hall each year and common people never forget him," said Liu Guoping, a supervisor of the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall in Beijing.

In Sun Yat-Sen's former residence in Shanghai, his bronze statue was also surrounded by cypress and flowers offered by people from all walks of life.

Hubei Province held a commemorative meeting in the province's memorial hall on the 1911 Revolution led by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, which overthrew the feudal Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

Meanwhile, many people chose to visit places where the great leader left his footprints, including the former residence of his wife Song Qingling.

Huang Xu, a middle school teacher who told her students stories about the respected couple, said "they enjoy the stories and I think this can help them develop patriotism."

Xu Lingsheng, a retired worker, wandered near Tieshizi Hutong (or Iron Lion alley) in Beijing, where Sun Yat-Sen died.

"I knew since childhood that Dr. Sun died of liver cancer here," Xu said. "I learnt his last words were on peace, struggle and saving China."

Born in 1866 in Xiangshan County (now Zhongshan City), Guangdong Province, Dr. Sun is known across the country as a great revolutionary and great statesman who fought against imperialist aggression and for the independence and freedom of China.
