A ceremony was held in regional capital Urumqi on Tuesday to launch donations from the Xinjiang Charity Federation to quake-stricken areas of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of northwest China.
It was the seventh ceremony organized by the Xinjiang's civil affairs department since a powerful earthquake on February 24 killed more than 250 people in the region.
Sources with the federation say by March 10, they have received 511,358 yuan (61,609 US dollars) and goods worth 3,473,756 yuan (418,525 US dollars), all of which have been sent to the affected counties of Bachu, Jiashi, Artux and Markit, and Kashi City.
The Xinjiang Yida Textile Group, which has already given 250,000 yuan (30,000 US dollars), donated more than 4,000 items of clothing worth 200,000 yuan (24,000 US dollars) at Tuesday's ceremony.
The regional civil affairs department and the Xinjiang Charity Federation have jointly organized a number of benefit activities to raise relief funds to help rebuilding in the quake-affected areas.
