Militant Group Claims Responsibility for Oil Tank Explosion in India

Calling up local media houses, the Commander-in-Chief of the group ULFA, Paresh Baruah said "my boys blew up the oil tank and gas pipeline. They have orders to continue such attacks in the coming days."

A major explosion took place in an Indian Oil Corporation's Assam Oil division (AOD) oil reserve depot tank near Digboi refinery in Upper Assam's Tinsukia district Friday night, the PTI quoted a local police as saying.

The other blast occurred at an Oil India Ltd pipeline carrying gas from its Duliajan unit to a local power grid at nearby Kathalguri partially damaging the pipeline.

Both the explosions occurred around the same time. No causalitywas reported in both the blast so far, said PTI.

There were panic reactions among the people of Digboi as the blast had taken place at the heart of the town.

The police said that seven fire tenders of the AOD, police and army were battling the towering flames which had leaped to 70 feethigh, adding the blaze had now been reduced to 30 feet.

The militants may have used rocket launchers or mortars to trigger the two blasts, said the police.
