NPC Chairman Meets Slovak President

Slovakia is an important cooperative partner of China in the central Europe and both sides are willing to further bilateral ties, said Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC),during his meeting with visiting Slovakian President Rudolf Schuster Tuesday.

Slovakia is an important cooperative partner of China in the central Europe and both sides are willing to further bilateral ties, said Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC),during his meeting with visiting Slovakian President Rudolf Schuster Tuesday.

Li said China was willing to advance bilateral ties on the basis of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit and non-interference in internal affairs.

Li said cooperation between the two parliaments played a unique role in enhancing mutual understanding and friendship of the two peoples and enhancing bilateral ties.

He said he was glad to see the NPC and the Slovakian parliament had maintained close cooperation, which had enriched bilateral cooperation.

The NPC was willing to further the cooperation with the Slovakian parliament and welcomed more people from the parliament to China, Li said.

Schuster said he had fruitful talks with Chinese President Jiang Zemin on Monday and his China visit was very successful.

Schuster said the NPC played an important role in China's politics and Slovakia attached great importance to relations between the two parliaments.

Schuster said he hoped bilateral ties would develop comprehensively.
