Aerzhai Grottos

The murals about the ancient Mi Sect of Tibetan Buddhism, treasures rarely seen in China, are discovered in the Aerzhai Grottos that have a history of over 1,600 years in Hohhot, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The grottos with 65 stone caves carved around the mountains are a Buddhism treasure house on the grassland. (Xinha)

Protect the Rock Painting in Inner Mongolia

The picture taken on Nov. 3, 2002 in the Rock Painting Museum in the city of Wuhai in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region shows the rock painting of the smiling face of the Sun God. Recently, Wuhai is taking measures to protect some rock paintings dating back to 5,000 years ago in the Zhuozi Mountain. According to experts, the rock painting group in the Zhuozi Mountain is the largest with the theme of offering sacrifices to the Sun God, ever discovered in China and even the world. (Xinhua)

The World Largest Generator Unit in Three Gorges

The 1694.5-ton roter for the No. 2 turbine generator unit is successfully lifted into the power room on the left side of the Three Gorges dam Nov. 7, 2002. The capacity of the unit is 700,000 kilowatts, the largest of its kind in the world. (Xinhua)
