Samsung to Build TFT-LCD Module Factory in China

A ceremony was held here on Friday to lay the cornerstone for the new Samsung TFT-LCD Module Factory. The TFT-LCD modules will be used for assembling computers with sizes ranging from 14.1 inches and 15.0 inches for laptops, and 15.0 inches, 17.0 inches and 19.0 inches, for desktop models.

A ceremony was held here on Friday to lay the cornerstone for the new Samsung TFT-LCD Module Factory.

The new factory will be located in the Suzhou Industrial Park of Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, east China.

Upon completion, the factory will cover 100,000 square meters and produce 160,000 TFT-LCD modules per month. It is expected to commence operations by the third quarter of next year.

The TFT-LCD modules will be used for assembling computers with sizes ranging from 14.1 inches and 15.0 inches for laptops, and 15.0 inches, 17.0 inches and 19.0 inches, for desktop models.

Since 1998, Samsung Electronics, a Korean company, has been the largest TFT-LCD maker in the world, according to company sources. By 2006, Samsung's TFT-LCD sales are projected to reach 4.2 billion US dollars.
