China thrashed South Korea 3-0 in the Far East Four-nation women's soccer tournament Thursday in Wuhan.
China, with Sun Wen and Zhao Lihong as the noticeable absentees, led 1-0 in the fourth minute thanks to an own goal by South Korea's defender Hwang In Sun.
With one goal down, South Korea launched fast counter-attacks and nearly hit the equalizer in the 21st minute when Kang Sun Mi hit the post on a solo run.
In the second half, South Korea apparently ran out of steam. In the 63rd minute, China's midfielder Bai Lili burst into an unmarked position to head home a pinpoint pass from teammate Xie Caixia.
With six minutes to go, Xie put icing on the cake when she swept in China's third goal.
Despite the win, China's head coach Ma Liangxin said his team still leave much to be desired.
"They are rather young and should improve on their defence and attack. I am sure my team will become better," he said.
His South Korean counterpart Kim Jong Gun said China deserved the win, because they are the better side.
