NPC Chairman Meets Philippine Guests
Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) met here Wednesday with a delegation from the Philippines Jin Jiang General Association, Inc. headed by Director Manny Dy.

Li praised overseas Chinese living in the Philippines for their contributions to that country's economic prosperity. He also thanked them for their efforts in promoting friendship between the two countries, and supporting China's economic construction and the cause of China's peaceful reunification.
Li said China now enjoys political stability and is making progress in all aspects of society. The Chinese economy maintained a good upward momentum in the first half of this year.
China is making preparations to face the challenges and opportunities brought about by its entry into the World Trade Organization.
"We are full of confidence in the development prospects," he said.
Manny Dy said the more than two million overseas Chinese livingin the Philippines are willing to play a bigger role in promoting friendly cooperative ties between the Philippines and China.
Founded in 1994, the Philippines Jin Jiang General Association,Inc. is the Philippines' biggest and most influential organizationfor people of Chinese origin. For years, it has done a lot in expanding friendship between the two countries and promoting Chinese education in the Philippines.
