Earthquake Claims 500 Lives in Iran

A man despairs at the loss of his family, killed in the house behind him when a strong earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale hit his village of Changoureh in northern Iran June 22, 2002. The death toll from the powerful earthquake, which killed at least 500 people in northern Iran, was set to rise on Sunday as rescuers scoured the remains of mountain villages reduced to rubble and dust.
