In recent years, economic and trade cooperation between China and Cambodia have been restored and developed rapidly and the area of cooperation continue to expand. In 1996, the two governments signed an Agreement on Trade and Investment Protection. During Prime Minister Hun Sen's visit to China in February 1999, the two sides signed an Agreement on Economic and Technological Cooperation and the Framework Agreement on the Chinese Government's Preferential Loans to the Cambodian Government. During President Jiang Zemin's visit to Cambodia in November 2000, the two sides signed an "Agreement on the Establishment of a Joint Economic and Trade Commission", an "Agreement on Economic Cooperation" and "A Memorandum of Understanding on Sino-Cambodian Agricultural Cooperation"etc.

Since 1992, the bilateral trade volume has increased year by year. In 1998, the bilateral trade volume totaled US$ 224 million, 39.6% more than that of last year, in which China's export volume reached US$ 164 million and import volume amounted to US$ 60 million. Up to now, there are over 130 China-funded companies in Cambodia of with a total investment of US$ 180 million ( according to the statistics of the Cambodia side ).

China's main exports to Cambodia include machinery and electronic products, textiles, steel, clothes, TV sets, textile machinery, household ceramics, medical products, motor-cycles and by-cycles spare parts etc. and main imports from Cambodia include rubber, timber, plywood and so on.
