CPC Leader Returns to Beijing After African Tour

Wei Jianxing, standing committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, returned to Beijing Friday following a good-will visit to Cote d'Ivoire, Gabon, Botswana and Zimbabwe. Wen Jiabao, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC central Committee and Vice-Premier, greeted Wei at the Great Hall of the People.

11th Panchen Lama Returns to Shigatse

The 11th Panchen Lama(C) is leaded by Local Lamas to the Zhaxi Lhunbo Lamasery, Panchen's residence in Shigatse June 14, 2002. Local Lamas and Buddhists greeted the 13-year-old Panchen Lama after he finished a Buddhist service in Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region.  

Chinese Naval Fleet Calls at Alexandria Port of Egypt

The fleet, composed of a missile-guided destroyer, the Qingdao, and a supply ship, the Taicang, took up a berth at Alexandria and started a five-day visit to Egypt Friday. This is one of its stops during its round-the-world maiden voyage in China's Navy history. 

Germany Beats Paraguay 1-0

Oliver Neuville's 88th minute goal secured Germany's 1-0 victory over Paraguay and a quarter-final berth in the World Cup finals on Saturday.  

S. Korea Beats Portugal 1-0

World Cup co-host South Korea advanced to the second round of the premier soccer tournament for the first time Friday evening in Inchon when they beat nine-man Portugal 1-0 and became the winner of the group D on seven points.
