China, Macedonia to Promote Economic and Trade Cooperation

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji told visiting Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski that China is ready to further the economic and trade relations with Macedonia on the principles of equality, mutual benefit and market economy.

Chinese Premier Meets Macedonian President
Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji told visiting Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski that China is ready to further the economic and trade relations with Macedonia on the principles of equality, mutual benefit and market economy.

During the meeting Monday, Zhu proposed to strengthen the role of the trade departments of the two countries and the Sino-Macedonian sub-committee, to encourage the enterprises of both nations to increase contact and cooperation.

Zhu congratulated Trajkovski on his successful visit, saying the two heads of state held talks on bilateral relations and issues of common concern, and signed a joint statement on consolidating and promoting friendly relations and cooperation, which would guide the development of Sino-Macedonian relations.

He pointed out that Sino-Macedonian relations of friendship and mutual benefit had developed rapidly since the normalization of diplomatic ties, and China was ready to enhance political and economic cooperation with Macedonia.

Trajkovski said his visit was fruitful and all contact between Macedonia and China was valuable. He noted that developing economic cooperation with China was necessary and hoped China encouraged its entrepreneurs to invest in Macedonia.

He reaffirmed his adherence to the One-China policy, and his refusal to allow outside interference in relations between Macedonia and China.

Zhu expressed appreciation for the commitment of Trajkovski on the Taiwan issue, saying that Sino-Macedonian relations had undergone ups and downs, but as long as the two sides draw lessons from the past, bilateral ties would maintain development.

He said the Chinese government respected the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Macedonia, supported the efforts of Macedonia in safeguarding its stability, and understood its policy to join in European integration.
