A group of 99 separated family members from South Korea Sunday met their relatives they have not seen for five decades in the resort of Mount Kumgang in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
The South Koreans, traveling to DPRK by boat, reunited with their DPRK family members in tears and happiness in a local hotel.
The three-day reunion is the fourth round of such exchange since the historic inter-Korean summit in June 2000, at which South Korean President Kim Dae-jung and DPRK leader Kim Jong Il agreed to seek reconciliation, cooperation and peace.
In return, some 100 separated family members from the DPRK are scheduled to visit South Korea on May 1-3 under an agreement signed early this month to restart the stalled reconciliation projects after Seoul sent an envoy to Pyongyang.
There are more than 10 million separated family members on the peninsula due to the Korean War in 1950-1953.
