Germany's partially privatised postal service Deutsche Post wants to invest more than 1.5 billion euros (US$1.35 billion) in China over the next two to three years, the magazine Der Spiegel reported Saturday.

In an advanced release of its edition due out on Monday, Der Spiegel quoted "a strategic paper on China" from Deutsche Post, which said it wanted to develop its DHL Worldwide Express freight wing in the country.

The service also plans to launch postal joint-venture operations in China, the news magazine said.

On April 8, chairman Klaus Zumwinkel said Deutsche Post planned to continue expanding through strategic partnerships and new acquisitions.
