A large-scale trade fair for private business has been scheduled for August 8 in south China's Guangdong Province where the country's private economy is thriving.

Zhou Zhina, deputy head of the fair's organizing committee and vice-mayor of Dongguan City, said that 1,000 exhibition rooms would be offered in an area of more than 20,000 square meters.

The items on display in Dongguan will cover the country's dynamic private economy including electronic information products, garments and textiles, household appliances, food and drinks, farm produce, hardware, machinery, chemical engineering, works of art, printing, real estate and decoration materials.

Symposiums on the private economy's development potential and exhibitions of the latest scientific and technological achievements will be held simultaneously.

Statistics revealed that some 16 percent of the city's tax revenue came from non-government enterprises whose employees total more than 440,000.

The Dongguan city government plans to further boost the local economy through an improved business environment especially for the private sector.

Nationwide, the country's private sector makes up more than 30 percent of China's total gross domestic product.

Started in the early 1980s, China's private sector has grown at an annual rate of 20 percent, much faster than the growth rate of the national economy's 9.5 percent over the past two decades.
