Chinese Legislature Kicks off 5-day Session

The Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress (NPC) kicked off a five-day legislative session Wednesday to examine five draft laws.

The Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress (NPC) kicked off a five-day legislative session Wednesday to examine five draft laws.

Three draft laws, on the examination of imported and exported commodities, the protection of cultural relics, the promotion of the development of medium-size and small enterprises, were submitted for review Wednesday. Two explanations of two articles on organized crime and the embezzlement of public property for personal gain were presented for their first hearing.

Two schemes on ethnic minority quota allocations of deputies to be elected to the 10th National People's Congress and representation of Taiwan deputies were tabled Wednesday for consideration.

The Optional Protocol on the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography and an extradition treaty with Ukraine were presented to the legislature for ratification.
