Ethiopian President Girma Wolde-georgis said Tuesday that Ethiopia is ready and committed to step up its bilateral relations with the Sudan.

The socio-economic as well as the political and cultural ties between the peoples of Ethiopia and the Sudan were crucial to expedite development efforts in the respective countries, said the Ethiopian president in a meeting here with the visiting Sudanese vice president Ali Ousman Mohammed Taha.

Ali Ousman said upon the conclusion of his visit he expects to sign agreements that would elevate the Ethio-Sudanese relations to a higher level and benefit the peoples of the two countries.

The Sudanese vice president has held talks with members of the Ethiopian business community on Tuesday, hoping the Ethiopian business community to engage in investment ventures in the Sudan.

The two bordering countries have been reportedly engaging in the cooperative areas of electric power supply, aviation, transportation, telecommunications, petroleum supply and port utilization.
