Defense Minister Meets ROK Visitors

Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian met with President of the Defense University of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Hwang Gyu-Sik, and his delegation in Beijing on Tuesday.

Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian met with President of the Defense University of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Hwang Gyu-Sik, and his delegation in Beijing on Tuesday.

Chi, also vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission and a state councilor, said the friendship between the two countries dated from ancient times, and bilateral relations had developed smoothly in recent years.

"Military exchanges are also expanding," he said.

The China-ROK cooperative partnership, founded by the leaders of both countries, faced the 21st century in a buoyant state, he said. High-level military exchanges had advanced in recent years, and the Chinese side was willing to expand friendly cooperation between the two countries and their armed forces.

Chi also stressed the ties and exchanges between the defense universities of both countries.

Hwang said exchanges and cooperation between the two countries and their armed forces were constantly developing. ROK hoped China would continue to play a constructive role in maintaining peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula, he said.
