PLA Chief of General Staff Meets Belarussian Guests

Fu Quanyou, chief of General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) met here Monday with Leonid Semeonovich Maltsev, visiting Belarus Defense Minister and his party.

Fu Quanyou, chief of General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) met here Monday with Leonid Semeonovich Maltsev, visiting Belarus Defense Minister and his party.

Fu, also a member of the Central Military Commission, extended a warm welcome to Maltsev. He said China and Belarus have a traditional friendship. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries 10 years ago, bilateral relations have developed smoothly with fruitful cooperation in economic, scientific and cultural areas.

As bilateral relations have progressed, military exchanges and cooperation have also deepened, he noted. China is willing to try its best to further develop friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.

When talking about the Taiwan issue, Fu said the realization of reunification is the consistent faith for all Chinese people. The basic policy for settling the Taiwan issue is "peaceful reunification; one country, two systems," he said.

Fu also briefed the guests on China's attitude towards the international situation.

Maltsev said, Belarussian armed forces highly valued their cooperative relations with the Chinese PLA.
