In Beijing gusty wings and rain have followed two days of overcast weather with the city's temperature falling suddenly Monday morning.

According to sources from the Central Meteorological Observatory, China's northern areas will mostly have a marked temperature decrease over the next two or three days; while most southern areas will have heavy rain with some areas likely to be hit by gales, thunderstorms or hail.

The latest weather forecast shows that over the next three days, light or moderate rain and some snow will fall on most areas of north and northeast China as well as in the Huaihe and Yellow River regions and the average temperature will drop by six to 12 Celsius degrees accompanied by moderate to strong breezes and occasional gales.

The forecast also warns of blizzards in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Hebei Province.

South China as well as the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and parts of Sichuan Basin will have a rainfall of from 30 to 70 millimeters, with 80 to 120 millimeters in some of these areas in accordance with the forecast.

Li Yanxiang, chief forecaster with the China Meteorological Administration, considers the snowy and rainy weather a normal phenomenon and the result of the interaction between the cold fronts moving down from west Siberia and the warm flows moving up to the north.

The forecast also predicts sandstorms to recur in parts of north and northwest China over the next two days.
