Li Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said Monday that China will develop its friendly relations with Romania using the principles of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit, and non-interference in each other's internal affairs.

Li said during a meeting with Nicolae Vacaroiu, chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Romania, that China and Romania have a broad base for developing their friendship and this has stood firm for over half a century.

Noting gratifying progress that Romania has made in boosting its national economy and improving people's living standard, Li said China respects the way the Romanian people have chosen to develop their country as well as their efforts to integrate with Europe.

The CPPCC and the Senate of Romania, Li said, should strengthen cooperation and contribute to the stable and healthy development of China-Romania relations.

Vacaroiu said the warm reception he and his delegation have had in China shows the friendly feeling the Chinese people have towards the Romanian people. He said he is glad to be able to learn from China's experiences, especially from the way it has constructed economic and technological development zones.

The Romanian delegation arrived in Beijing Sunday on an eight- day friendly visit to China at the invitation of Li Ruihuan.
