Li Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met with Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Nikolai Vassilev and his party in Beijing on Monday.

Li said China and Bulgaria had a traditional friendship. Since establishing their diplomatic relations, the two countries had seen changing fortunes both in the world and their own countries.

However, the two countries steadily developed healthy bilateral relations, Li said.

Li praised Bulgaria's stand on the "one China" policy over the issue of Taiwan.

China and Bulgaria needed to boost economic development and improve their people's living standards, Li noted.

In recent decades, China had achieved great goals in economic and social development. Nevertheless, Li added, it would take the arduous efforts for the next few decades and an even longer period of time to make its people well off.

Li said he hoped that China and Bulgaria would cooperate more on economic progress.

Vassilev said that Bulgaria and China were important partners and the scope of their cooperation are very wide. The two sides should continue advancing their cooperation in economy, trade and other fields, he said.

Moreover, he reiterated that the Bulgarian government would keep to the "one China" policy over Taiwan.
