Li Peng Hosts Farewell Banquet for AAPP Delegates

Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), and his wife Zhu Lin hosted here Friday a farewell banquet for delegates to the third annual meeting of the Association of Asian Parliaments for Peace (AAPP).

Addressing the banquet, Li, who was elected president of the AAPP during the meeting, said the meeting has achieved fruitful results and reached comprehensive consensus thanks to the joint efforts of all participants.

He pointed out that so long as Asian countries are committed tostability and development, continue to actively adjust their policies, improve their modes of development and strengthen regional cooperation, Asia will renew its glory and splendor.

"The pursuit of peace and development represents the general trend and popular will, and such a pursuit conforms to the development of the times," he stressed.

The third annual meeting of the AAPP, with "peace and development" as the theme, ended here Friday afternoon.
