Starting from 2002, Northeast China's Jilin Province will begin bilingual teaching in its regular undergraduate courses.

The provincial education department said the move is aimed at meeting a surge in demand for people skilled in foreign languages following China's WTO entry.

Bilingual teaching will be widely instituted in the province's regular undergraduate courses, and will account for one tenth of available courses within three years.

College and university teachers will receive appropriate training.
