Introduction of Association of Asian Parliaments for Peace (AAPP)
Created in September of 1999, the AAPP is the largest inter-parliamentarian organization in Asia with 36 member states and 15 non-member states.

In line with the theme of "peace and development", lawmakers every year will discuss a wide spectrum of issues including multi-polarization in the world politics, world peace, economic globalization and its ensuing impact upon developing nations and how to strengthen international cooperation for a new international political and economic order.

Chinese delegates to the third annual meeting of the Association of Asian Parliaments for Peace (AAPP) voiced their views Thursday on multi-polarization, globalization and the establishment of new international political and economic order.

On multi-polarization and world peace
On multi-polarization and world peace, member of the Chinese delegation Li Daoyu said that multi-polarization serves as an important foundation for the lasting peace in the world.

"It is conducive to the establishment of the just and reasonable international political and economic new order and good for the formation of relatively stable international political framework," he said.

Besides, it also facilitates the exchanges and cooperation among various countries on the basis of mutual respect for independence, sovereignty, equality and mutual benefit, Li said.

  • To this end, he called for efforts in four major areas. One, it is necessary to urge the international community to adhere to the purpose and principle outlined in the United Nations Charter, to stick to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence.

  • Two, it's necessary to actively advocate democratization in the international relations. Countries, big or small, rich or poor, strong or weak, are equal members of the international community and have equal rights to participate in the world affairs.

  • Three, it's necessary to continue to give full play to the active role of the United Nations in dealing with international issues and in safeguarding world peace, to guarantee the equal rights of all member countries in handling international issues.

  • Four, it's necessary to strengthen the solidarity and cooperation among the developing countries.

    On economic globalization
While discussing the issue of economic globalization, a Chinese delegate Zhou Zhengqing said that the globalization process is conducive to the optimized allocation of the production factors in the global sphere and can deepen the interdependence of economies in various countries and bring about new opportunities for countries to leapfrog economic development.

  • "First, we believe the developed countries and developing countries should join hands in meeting the challenges of economic globalization," he said.

"We should strive for the establishment of a just and reasonable new international economic order and fully guarantee the rights and interests of developing countries," he said.

The rational development of economic globalization should lead to the global economic increase as a whole and benefit the least-developed countries. "This is what we call a responsible economic globalization," Zhou said.

  • Secondly, he said that a new type of North-South relations of mutual benefit should be established. The international community, developed countries in particular, should take into full consideration the hardships and requirements of the developing countries, intensify their effort to provide economic and technological assistance with a far-sighted vision and a cooperative spirit and achieve the common development of the global economy.

  • Thirdly, developing countries should unite together, rely on themselves and cooperate for development so as to achieve common prosperity.

Fourthly, developing countries should adapt to changes of situation, work for benefits and fend off harm and make adjustment for progress, Zhou said.

On the establishment of new political and economic order
Talking about the establishment of new political and economic order, another Chinese delegate Cai Chengbai said that the common interest and demands of all the people throughout the world must be reflected by the new order.

Every nation should have the right to choose their own development pattern in light of national conditions, he said.

Also the new order should be able to facilitate democratization in international relations, solve international problems through consultation and confront challenges all human beings have to face.

In addition, the equal right for the development of all the countries should be guaranteed, especially the right of the developing countries, Cai said.
